2. Tekken 7
Platform(s): PS4, Xbox One, PC
Tekken 7 has been in Japanese arcades since early 2015, and it’s taking its sweet time in making the transition to Western consoles. But with any luck, that extra wait will be worth it. Tekken 7 is the next iteration of Bandai Namco’s famed 3D fighting series, bringing back veterans from the King of Iron Fist tournament alongside some spiffy-looking newcomers – including Kazumi Mishima, Kazuya’s mother who can perform literal tiger uppercuts with her beast companion. Expect plenty of heavy-hitting animations, devastating ground bounce combos, and bizarre backdrops.
The Crackdown series follows a futuristic cop in a corrupt, open-world city overrun by violent gangs. Crackdown 3 What’s remarkable about it is how you start out as a pretty normal guy, but thanks to incremental upgrades, by the end of the game you can leap up the sides of skyscrapers and wipe out swarms of bad guys single-handedly.
An impressive 6 years after the release of the previous entry in the franchise, Crackdown 3 is set to explode onto our consoles next year. Famous for the series’ extreme physics and destructive nature, Crackdown 3 looks like it will live up to all expectations. Continue Reading »
4. Red Dead Redemption 2
Release date: Autumn 2017
Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, (PC ‘coming soon’)
Red Dead Redemption, an open-world western action-adventure game, was released in 2010, and we’ve been eagerly awaiting a new instalment in the franchise since then. Prior to that, the original game in the Red Dead series, called Red Dead Revolver, was released in 2004. With a six-year gap between Red Dead Revolver and Red Dead Redemption, we imagine (see: hope) that means we should be seeing a Red Dead Redemption 2 announcement during 2016.
The biggest evidence to suggest that Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming at some point in the future comes from Rockstar Games, which said back in 2012 that it had plans to release a new game in the series.
The Legend of Zelda for Wii U has generated plenty of hype since its announcement. The first Zelda game to be developed with HD graphics, the title also features a huge open-world that is said to be larger than any of the previous games, and as big as the Wii U hardware can handle.
The next The Legend of Zelda title aims to allow players to travel wherever they want and complete dungeons in any order they choose, as opposed to the series’ standard linear nature. Continue Reading »
6. Injustice 2
Injustice 2 is the direct sequel to NetherRealm’s hugely popular Injustice: Gods Among Us from 2013, which saw beloved DC Universe heroes and villains collide in a brutally fantastic brawler.
Gods Among Us was well received by critics and fans alike, with its over-the-top combat, incredible special moves and – something rare for a fighting game – a compelling story mode.
Injustice 2 doesn’t have a release date as yet, only a vague “2017” launch window. It will arrive on PS4 and Xbox One, surprisingly skipping PC after the poor reception of Mortal Kombat X on the platform.
7. God of War
Release date: TBC 2017
God of War is the upcoming sequel to God of War III as well as a continuation of the canon God of War chronology. God of War is the eighth installment in the franchise overall. Unlike previous installments
this game will focus on Norse mythology and will follow an older Kratos in the years since God of War III.God of War will be an exclusive PlayStation 4 launch.
8. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is an upcoming survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom. The game is slated for release on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with the PlayStation 4 version having support for the PlayStation VR headset. Release date(s): January 24, 2017
9. For HonorAfter Resident Evil 6 misfired by going all-in on mediocre action, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard wisely brings everything back to what first defined the series: survival horror. On top of RE7 recapturing the sense of dread and suspense from the earlier games, it’s clear that P.T. was also a huge inspiration: you now explore the world from first-person, and the environments are suitably dark and dingy. The RE7 demos we’ve played have already terrified us (in a good way), so we’re excited to see what kind of chilling scares and first-person combat await in the full game.
9. For Honor
For Honor is a melee action game from Ubisoft featuring Vikings, Knights & Samurai, coming out on February 14, 2017 on PS4, Xbox One & PCIf melee combat is at all your thing, For Honor should be your most anticipated game of 2017.
This 4v4 multiplayer brawler pits Knights, Samurai, and Vikings against one another in thrilling duels across chaotic battlefields. From what we’ve seen of it so far, For Honor’s combat is absolutely superb: every forceful hit or last-second block has a palpable weight to it, and the motion-captured animations are impressively fluid and graceful (as well as being unique to each of the four distinct roles in each faction). This is everything that the ho-hum Deadliest Warrior game should’ve been.
10. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
Outlast 2 is the sequel to the acclaimed survival horror game Outlast. Set in the same universe as the first game, but with different characters and a different setting, Outlast 2 is a twisted new journey into the depths of the human mind and its dark secrets. No conflict is ever black and white. Upcoming 2017 Games
You are Blake Langermann (where do they get these names?), a freelance cameraman who visits a small, isolated village in Arizona to investigate the murder of a young, pregnant woman. What follows is lashings of the same non-combat horror we saw in the original. You have a camera to look through – and because Blake is a cameraman, expect his to be more advanced – and legs to run away with. Early trailers make this look chilling, as you’d expect. Release Date: 2017
